Spatial Jobs Online News Bulletin August 2014 Issue 60

Spatial Jobs Online News Bulletin
August 2014 Issue 60
The inspiration for this newsletters blurb came from a Google search of “GSI Spatial weird”.  Why? There are so many practical applications found within this industry but there is also a fair proportion of fanciful, abstract and yes, weird.
We found this ESRI blogWeird Earth: Exploring the Earth with Interesting, Bizarre, and Odd Imagery” is a good example.  “Why Weird Earth? First, fascinating patterns, places, and phenomena abound on our planet, and some are just plain weird. Examining the bizarre is an excellent way of sparking student interest. As images are examined, the door for inquiry is opened: What physical and environmental factors caused the land and vegetation to look as it does? What do human-created objects on the landscape say about the culture and language there? What will these images look like tomorrow, in 10 years, in 100 years?”
This was a reminder of a book published in 1968, written by Erich von Daniken – The Chariots of the Gods – which examined ancient ruins, lost cities, space-ports, and a myriad of hard scientific facts that point to extra-terrestrial intervention in human history.  Think what von Daniken could have done with the technology available today?

Keep on going, and the chances are that you will stumble on something, perhaps when you are least expecting it. I never heard of anyone ever stumbling on something sitting down. - Charles F. Kettering, 1876-1956
